How to Train Your Cat Read the Rest in NHM #1!Lesson 1: Keeping Your Cat Off Things Are you tired of coming home to find your cat sitting on top of the bookshelf, calmly cleaning himself while your prize vase lies in pieces on the floor below? Frustrated by pieces of food that spontaneously "disappear" from your plate in mid-meal? Sounds like you need some help teaching your cat to stay off things! There are several methods that are in widespread use, including spraying the cat with water and making loud noises to dissuade him or her. Unfortunately, these require you to be present at the scene of the crime, if you will. They are also lacking in creativity and entertainment value. With that in mind, we present you with these five suggestions that you can use when out of the house or if the cable goes out. #1. The "Slip n' Slide" Method This method works well for the cat who likes to jump up on countertops in the kitchen or bathroom. We do not recommend using it on wood or other porous surfaces; instead, try the "Magic Carpet" method listed below. Liberally coat the countertop with a mixture of butter (margarine is acceptable, although it comes in smaller packages) and vegetable oil, making sure to grease the overhang as well. It is okay to set this up several hours beforehand, since the oil doesn't dry up. If you are concerned that your cat suspects something, you can also put a can of tuna or cat food on the counter as bait. Depending on the angle at which she jumps, when Kitty tries to jump onto the counter she will either slip back down just as quickly as she tries to climb up or go sliding merrily into the sink at top speed. Filling the sink with cold water is optional. The Naughty Hamster Monthly is Published by DreamChild Mindworks All Material is Copyright of the respective owners. |
